  • Blend material - unexpected behaviour

I was trying to recreate some 3.7 materials in 5.0 and got stuck with blend materials.

when I create a coat layer with a material that has a noise shader in the opacity slot, then the resulting blend material gets a red tint (see 2nd pic) from the coat but not the noise pattern.
It was not the case in 3.7 - (see first pic)

Also in the documentation it stated that the blend amount can be controlled by a texture map - where can I add the map please?

Blend Amount – Specifies how much of the final result is contributed by the corresponding coating material, and the rest of the materials below it. If the Blend amount is white, the final result is comprised of the coat material only, and other materials below it are blocked. If the Blend amount is black, a coat material has no effect on the final result. This parameter can also be controlled by a texture map.

    thanks.

    Hey mrudolf ,
You need to approach this differently. The workflow for the BlendMtl is a bit different compared to V-Ray 3.7. Use the Mask option that is located under the Blend amount of the Coat material. It seems that it wasn't addressed in the documentation. I'll make sure that we correct this.

I've made a quick video showing where to locate the option. Let me know if you need more information.

Hi, many thanks for the quick response. I was not aware that there was a hidden pull down "Mask" option
That helps and gives me something to work with.
