  • Slow material previews slowing down c4d

    We have big problems with the material previews and their responsivness. The thumbnails have to be reloaded again and again and cause c4d to freeze completely for a short time. Especially when opening a scene, all previews have to be rendered again. This can easily take half an hour, during which you can't work properly in the scene. Are we doing something wrong here or do we have wrong expectations?

    I have the same. When that happens, I can't select anything, move the camera or slide the slider, do anything.
    We mentioned a bit about it in this thread.

    Yes, such jams are flustering. Especially when the scene is complex, there is a lot of material and suddenly everything is stuck, because the materials render again.
    I hope it can be fixed in the future.

      Hello Doger ,
      I can't view the video for some reason. Could you please repost it? As for the slow loading are we talking about V-Ray 3 or V-Ray 5?

        Hi shaio ,

        i tried to reupload the Video:

        But it only shows how i duplicate a bunch of new materials and the preview causes c4d to stutter after a preview was clicked. VRay5
        I disabled the previews completly and a File which took 35 minutes to open, opened in 3 min.

          Thank you for the video and the feedback. I'll try this on my end right away to see what is going on and most importantly is it related to the slowdowns from the other thread.

            Doger Unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce this as it was shown in the video no matter how many times I tried on a few different machines (with different CPUs and core counts). It might be caused on specific hardware configurations or specific Cinema 4D settings but the most worrying part for me is that its very random. We will do our best to find the cause and try to fix this since it is very uncomfortable to work that way. Could you please try and do the same video but while doing this open the Console and check the V-Ray log to see if there are any error or warning messages printed while the system is hanging like this?

            Makushimu the issue described here in this thread is not related with the issue discussed inside the thread shared by you

              shaio I finally found the time to reproduce the problem again with the console open. I found out that the problem seems to have been fixed in one of the latest updates! Thank you! I will continue to test it and if I notice something again, I will upload a video with the console.

              I updated my graphics card drivers yesterday. Maybe the old drivers caused problems? Unfortunately, I can no longer see which old drivers were installed. Now I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed.

                Hi Doger How can I deactivate the material-previews? In Vray or in C4D-prefs? Let me know, please!

                  Hi Harry,

                  STRG+E to open the C4D Prefs ---> Renderer --> V-Ray ---> Materials Tab ---> Previews -> Deactivate Enable
