  • Proxy Library

    Dear,

I am in urgent need of a good proxy library. There has been some talk on the forum regarding this topic, but I wanted to reopen since the new hotfix2:

"Bug fixes: Cloning Proxy objects doesn't copy the assigned materials"

I would imagine I can now freely copy proxy objects from scene to scene without having to always reassign the materials? And as a result I can easily make a dra & drop proxy based library from the content browser.

When I copy a proxy object, I still need reassign the materials.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hey MichaelLammens ,

The issue we resolved was for existing proxy objects. When an existing proxy in the scene was cloned it didn't assign the same material to the clones as well.
We're looking for a good way of linking the existing materials in a scene with the proxy when it is imported. Unfortunately there is still some work that needs to be done on the Library side and especially when working with the content browser. Ideally the goal is to have a c4d file containing the proxy and the already assigned materials to the proxy and then import this c4d file in any project you're currently working on. I'll let you know as soon as we have any progress on linking existing materials with the V-Ray proxy.

    Thank you for your patience.

      Hi Ivan,

I tried saving a vrmesh in a C4D file, but this only works on very simple objects. Once selection tags are involved, this doesn't work. The whole concept of proxy's is dealing with complex geometry...

I hope chaos group understands that working with big scenes without proxys is very difficult. Try managing this for a whole 3D teams working together on Archviz scenes. Not easy.

      Please: make this a priority!

        Hello MichaelLammens ,

Please note that with the latest stable build you can now save a proxy with all your materials in a c4d file and then import that c4d file inside your project using the Content Browser. You can also copy proxys between different scenes without the need to reassign the materials. You can download the latest stable build from here:

          Dear Aleksandar,

Not sure what I am doing wrong, but copying the proxy between scenes doesn't seem to work.
Are the materials inherent in the proxy, or do you require all bitmaps within the tex folder from the scene in which you copy the proxy?

            Hello MichaelLammens,

The assigned materials are copied with the proxy in the new scene. Do you manage to copy the proxy without the materials or nothing gets copied at all? Can you take a short video recording of your screen where the issue is visible and share it with us? Thank you.

              How I did it:
I export a vray mesh in a new scene. I select options add proxy to scene + remove exported objects. The proxy that I now have renders perfect.
I copy this proxy to another scene. The proxy copies correctly, but renders completely white. In the proxy manager, there is no materials selected.

What is the exact version of V-Ray and Cinema4D that you have installed? Please update to the latest stable build and let me know if you still experience those issues. Thank you.

                      Hello,

Using the latest official build (V-Ray 5, Update 1.1) on Cinema4D S24 everything seems to be working fine on my end. Please check the following video. Can you share a recording of your screen, demonstrating the issue on your end? Thank you.

This might be my mistake then, apologies for this. I might have uploaded the wrong link. I have updated my post with a link to the latest stable build.

I am glad to hear that it now works. Should you have any further queries, please let us know.

                              Dear Aleksandar,

I try to make proxy's from 3D models of renderpeople. Nothing seems to work. Whatever I try, the models rende white. Have a look at the screenshot.
