  • No shadow previews in viewport?

Our IT department has just installed r24 + Vray 5, so i'm opening my old files and seeing how they convert. I've noticed though that the new Vray light objects have no shadow previews (or any preview it seems) in the viewports. It was super useful when doing automotive heights and angles work with our Head of Art on Zoom. I understand it was a feature of the C4D lights, but I was just wondering if it will be implemented at some point? Otherwise i'm probably going to have to flip to r20 + 3.7 for this type of work which would super annoying.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Actually, i've just seen this:

[MISSING] or [BUG] In the Cinema 4D Viewport -> Options -> Shadows: Are not shown
This is related to the previous issue above. The shadows and lighting from inside the Viewport in 3.7 were actually produced by the Cinema 4D Light object. Now when the Lights in V-Ray 5 are separate objects not a tag they don't emit any light in the viewport. Viewport previews for lights and materials would require a lot of development time and are not with a top priority for now. We will improve this in the future as soon as we catch up with most of the missing features from V-Ray 3.7.
I guess for the time being I can just chuck a non-rendering C4D infinite light in the scene for a viewport shadow:

      Hey KernitTheFont ,
Yes, having previews is very useful but such development of viewport previews for materials and lights would really take some time. There is an easy workaround for this but this would involve some xpresso nodes that will connect the possition and size of Cienma 4D lights to V-Ray Lights. You will have two overlapping lights, but it will do the trick. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll share a scene with an example on how to do this.

Thanks Shaio, that might be quite useful actually.

I've attached an example scene and recorded a simple video showing the main connections and how they work. Let me know if this is useful to you. It's a cheap hack, but it should do the work.
