  • Light Material different as Light itself

    Dear Chaosgroup,

I have another heavy problem. When using Area Lights compared to Light Material.
I want to have realistic light and GI-Distribution but when using Light Material its not even close to what I get with area lights.
Problem: I have a mix of "normal" shaped objects where I can use Area Lights but also rounded and complicated shapes where I have to rely on Light Materials.

Unfortunately in contrast to V-Ray 3.7 where I had the option to turn on "Use Direct Illumination" there is no option here. The light looks completely different, unrealistic and I cant adjust its intensity.
Light material is already set to color multiplier 1000. But even higher theres no difference in contrast to real area light... What do I do wrong? Is this a limitation?

First One is AREA Light and second one is Light Material. Its cleaner, more realistic and Normalmaps looks great. Right side: Not even close.

    Hello PdZ,

The "direct illumination" optimization, which will allow the light material to behave as an actual mesh light has not yet been implemented. This however is on our to-do list and will be implemented in the future. I will let you know once we have any updates.

We are also planning on adding a Mesh light in a future update.
