  • Serious slowdowns, longer render time on newest build - URGENT Please fix!

    Hello,

I just switched recently from build 50045 to the 51022.

And to my surprise it has serious rendering problems - randomly, every 2-5 frames, or render attempt, the preparing stage or the light cache stage slows down the entire machine, "hanging" doing nothing and 100% cpu.
I've tested and it happens on regular basis in vfb, when rendering in picture viewer, or even with c4d render queue. Sometimes it lingers for a minute, before I get a start of rendering a simple scene and overload my entire system.

This is only a quick example, as I can't waste more time on investigating this - but trust me, these slowdowns are constant and serious.

I've switched back to build 50045 and problem is not present - rock solid times every frame and I can operate my system all the time:

    BUILD 50045:

Build 51022 - overall slower, and consequntly, random frames take 2-3 times more to render. Almost every frame or rendering start gives me a system slowdown, when I can't even operate the mouse:

    (look at frames 3, 17, 25-29, 32, 34)

Please fix this as soon as you can, I can't imagine working with this, Vray destroys my workflow again. Is there a recent build that would overcome that?

shaio Nobody else reported that? CPU is 3960x, Win 10, occurs both on R21 and R23 and EVERY scene.

    Thank you
    Rafal

    No response anyone? shaio ?

This is serious matter - even rendering animations with 1-2 sec per frame, it does throttle for 12 seconds after some time...

This sounds similar or near by the problem I have with animations.. here:
Rendering Animation, Saving time increases with every frame... - Chaos Forums (chaosgroup.com)

Still no progress here... this is a real problem, as it is a true time killer and makes calculating time and costs difficult..
When you think the rendering should be done overnight and next morning is just the half done... is no fun

I will try to make a video somehow, but overall, Vray is still buggy, slowdowns, crashes, hangs on 100% cpu and does nothing...

          Hello RwVision,

I apologize for the delayed reply.

Upon testing on my end (build 51022) with a scene that I created I didn't experience any slowdowns in comparison to build 50045 and the render times were the same. Could you send us an example scene where you experience this issue so we can have a look and investigate further? You can open a support ticket via our contact form and send the file there (make sure to mention this forum thread). Thank you.

It is difficult to explain, but Vray reacts very sensitively to certain combinations in an animation in HybridRendering. The increase of the rendering time, or the rendering of the first frame and then a crash is always an indication for us that several objects within an animation do not harmonise with each other. These objects function alone in HybridRendering.

            Best regards

Let me get back when I find time apart form work get an example.

Can you explain more ? How to know when hybrid rendering is used?

Basically it's not happening only in animations.

I hope I understand you correctly.

Hybrid rendering is set on the PC, Posting No.8

In the task manager, you can see under GPU/Cuda and CPU whether hybrid rendering (GPU+CPU) is running.

ich hoffe ich verstehe dich richtig.

                      Hello RwVision,

Let me get back when I find time apart form work get an example.
Sure, take your time and send us a test scene when you get the chance. Thanks.

pardalis, could you please elaborate some more on the issues that you experience? Can you send us a scene where you experience crashes and the other issues, mentioned above and give us more detailed information about those issues? Thanks.

                        Hello Aleksandar,
Sorry, but I can't send you the data.

We notice that there are problems with hybrid rendering, but we can't really classify them yet. We use a DomeLight and many AreaLights for our animations. In the animation we have a lot of camera movements, objects are faded in and out, a building is built up and so on. We have created the individual scenes in takes. The first frame of a take is often darker than the second frame. We often have longer render times before an action in an animation starts a process.

Another thing that irritates me is the double calculation of files during a rendering. After displaying "Rendering Image", "Loading Bitmaps" -> Building Light Cache" etc. appears again and when "Merging Light Cache Passes" is displayed, the image is rendered.

                        Hallo Aleksandar,

                        AMD 3970X 32 Core, 128 GB Ram, NVIDIA RTX3090, Driver 471.68, Vray v510.22 from 24 Sept2021

                        Best regards

                          Hello pardalis,

Thanks for this information. As you can't share your scene, please create a new test scene where the issue is reproducible and share it with us so we can have a look. To send the scene you can create a support ticket via our contact form and attach it. Please make sure to mention this thread in the body of the ticket.

Also, does the issue only happen when using hybrid rendering? Does it happen when rendering with V-Ray or V-Ray GPU only?
