  • Strange reflection spots with carpaint2

Hi, I get strange reflection spots with carpaint2.
In my example I am using Vray sun+sky with default settings, carpaint2 with default settings and a cam with 100 / 16 / 100
Vray CPU only / Windows / S24 / one of the latest vray night builds

I don't get rid of the strange white spots. Only if I am lowering the coat amount. But then the material gets less realistic.

I claim this shouldn't be, or? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, they looks like the sun disk reflection on the coat layer, try to disable the sun visibility in reflection to be sure. If that’s the sun then you can play with lens effects to get a more realistic result, in real life bright spots should produce bloom/glare. If you can share the scene I can check

      Hi Sirio,
yes, thanks, when I switch the sun to invisible, the spots are gone. This could be a workaround, but this shouldn't happen, or not?
I've played around, it is not happening with carpaint only. Same with a standard Vray material..
Regarding lens effects. I sometimes prefer it in post, as sometimes clients don't like it, so no need to render it again..

But, thanks for the hint.. !!

        Hello haniel1107

The small reflection spots usually appear if you have your glossiness value high on your material.

If you have your glossiness value as 0.99 you will get really sharp reflection spots: Image

Here is how the reflections look with gloss value of 1: Image

If you don’t want to change your glossiness value, you can resolve this by increasing the Glossiness tail value: Image

          Hello Valentin,

thank you very much. This sounds really helpful and things I honestly didn't know. I will try it out, but I am sure this will solve it.
          Thanks.
