I cant run the script here.

    File "scriptmanager", line 7
    vrayPreferences=c4d.plugins.GetWorldPluginData(105 3273)

In addition to the slow material previews, my cinema recently closes without error message.

It must be somehow related to the material previews because when they are turned off everything works fine.

I'll send you a file that I can no longer open with material preview via DM.

Hi @aleksandar.kasabov (please let me know how can I tag people like you do )

I will test the scene with node materials on the weekend and post my findings.
We have various systems but most of them are amd threadripper 3970x or 3990x with win 10 pro. 128 gb or 256 gb of ram. and mac systems with 28 core Intel Xeon W-2175 and 384 or 192 gb of ram with mac os 11 big sur.
All of the machines run cinema 4d r25 and vray 5.20.02

        Hi aleksandar.kasabov
i've reproduce the same material with node system and all goes smoth and the preview is very interactive
In the convencional way to create materials, if we disable the material preview in the preferences all goes really fast and smoth... but we can not see what we are doing unless we turn on the IPR
maybe add the same preview way from the node system to convencional?

I've run the script but nothing happen ( i guess)
        but here it goes

        about the system info:
        - Intel I9-9980
        - windows 10 pro
        - ram 32gb

        the workstation:
        - AMD Rysen 3990X
        - windows 10 Pro
        - ram 128gb

        thanks in advance
        best regards

          Hi people,
the script for extended logging must be just formatted a bit differently. It should print "Material preview log set to true" in the python console if it worked. Find it attached as txt. cheers

              Hello nunomatos,

              Thank you for those details.

In your material setup, do you use any baked shaders? Also, does this slowdown happen with all materials in the scene or just some in particular? Would you mind sending us this scene so we can investigate it? Thank you.

Hi aleksandar.kasabov thanks for your prompt answer
the images are simple JPGs with very low res... so no baked images.
I can't remember if happen with other materials but i can send you the scene
                I'll send you via messanger?
                thanks

                      Hi,

it's not 100% related, but I unfortunately experience the same issue (even worse) when I open scenes with Vray 3.70.05. The opening of a normal complex project takes about 1h. After that, work is almost impossible because the material feedback is extreme slow and the computer almost freezes. Maybe it has something to do with the Rysen 3990X because on my older System a dual Xeon there are no problems of that kind.
Can you plz tell me how to disable the material previews? Then I could render with this machine at least.

                      thanks!

Hi H_923874 sorry to ear about that ... we run also on Rysen 3990 machines but also hapen on Intel I9.... not the scene converter situation but the material slow preview...
to disable the material preview go here (image bellow)
                        hope this can be fixed...

                          Hi people,
I just wanted to report that in the meantime, I did a full "format c" - reinstallation of one of our workstations and then had only Win 10, Cinema 4d R23, Vray 5.20.02 and the necessary most recent drivers installed. Just to be sure, that the material preview lags are not somehow software-related on our side. Unfortunately, still with this minimum-system, the issue stays the same. We are running only AMD machines (in this case a Threadripper 1950X) so I cannot test, whether the problem might be AMD-related, but if I understood nunomatos correctly, it also happens on Intel systems.

Are there any further thoughts/investigations on that matter at this point? Because it is the main reason for us to stay away from Vray 5 for production at the moment.
What seems most strange to me, is that only a relatively small group of users seem to have this problem.

                          Thanks and best regards.

                            Hello all,

Our developers made some further investigations and it turned out that a major issue with the material previews has been overlooked after some optimizations. We are currently working on a fix which will be available as soon as possible. I will let you know once the fix is available. Thank you.

                              Hello all,

Recently our developers made some changes that should affect the material preview. The changes are in the latest stable builds which you can find here.

Could you please download and install the latest stable build and see if you will experience faster material previews. Thank you.

                                Hi all
first apologies for the late answer
in fact after the last update, all the things become more smoth, even with large images, so thank you Chaos Team
but what really makes the difference (and this tip, thanks to stefan Laub) is, first have always absolute textures path when pushing a texture and second is turn off the paths in C4D preferences. Apparently even you have the textures in the project folder, C4D still searching in the paths you have in preferences... I can make a small video, although this is now much faster with this last update
the only stepback is that when you have textures without absolute path, C4D will try to search and if you don't have any path in C4D preferences, C4D will not find...

                                thanks anyway for this update
