  • increasing rendering time with DR

Hi, does anyone experiences the same issues?
I'm rendering via DR (without the local machine) and the time for calculating the images are suddenly increasing extremely. Its just a camera fly-through (interior) and no objects are moving.
Restarting the job every couple hours solves this issue but is not a solution. See the following picture. After restarting the rendering time went from 1 hour to 5 minutes!

If I render the job in DR-mode WITH the local machine this doesn't happen.

    Any idea?

    Hello klex167,

Could you please share some more details about this issue? Are you experiencing it with a specific scene or any scene? Also, could you please share the specs of the machines and the versions of V-Ray, C4D and OS that you have installed?

Have you experienced similar issues when rendering locally without using DR? Thank you.

      Hi Aleksandar,
besides my mail I have to add that I'm rendering with the render manager.
      May be this is important.

        Hello klex167,

        Thank you for this information.

I will investigate your scene and I will get back to you once I have more information. Thanks.

          Hi!

Is there any update on this bug?
I recently ran into the same issue. The render times double per frame after 20 frames or so. I just started experiencing this issue after I added more than 3 machines (1 main and 2 hosts). For some reason the render times started to climb. The scene is pretty simple just a slow camera orbit around an object with static lighting. So the render time shouldn't double after a few frames.

It looks like it has something to do with the number of render hosts because we didn't have this issue previously or during local rendering.
All machines run the same win 10 pro os, c4d r25, Vray 5.20.02. ,with same amount of ram and same cpu-s (amd TR - 32 core)

            Hello akos_kiss,

Have you tested this with more than one scene? Does this issue appear on a fresh test scene? Would you mind sharing your scene with us so we can have a look? Thank you.

              Hi,

I have the same issue, but with a very complex exterior archviz scene with only the camera moving.
              750 frames
              1235 objects
              22493 KBytes of memory
Lots of clones, instances and Chaos Cosmos tree assets.

PC is a 64 Core AMD Threadripper, 128MB RAM running Cinema 4D R25, VRay 5.20.02 and CPU rendering via distributed rendering.

The first 10-13 frames render in around 5 minutes each then stall to 2 hours within a 3 frame period. If I cancel the render then continue to continue the sequence (rendering animations to jpeg images) the same happens again after 10-13 frames.

This has happened before on other projects of similar complexity.

Microsoft CPU performance monitor shows CPU is working 100%

The only thing I can see that happens around 10 frames from starting a render is the Image Effects Update Frequency in the VRay frame buffer settings is set to 10 frames. Could this be a cause?

                Hello sarah_kirschman,

I regret to hear that you experience this issue.

Would you mind sending me your scene with all assets for it (you can send it via DM) so I can investigate it? Also, can you please specify how many machines are you using for the distributed rendering and what are their specifications (exact CPU models, RAM, OS, V-Ray versions)? It would also be worth the try to test it with the latest build which we released yesterday. You can download it from here.

I'm looking forward to your reply.
