  • Multiple UVW's UVW manager?

    Hello,

What is the solution now for choosing and using mutliplle UVW projections in one material?

Please don't tell me it's another missing feature from old 3.7...

    Thanks!

Hi RwVision can you clarify what exactly do you mean by "multiple UVW projections"?

If you want to simply control the UV scale and offset or projection type - you can use the native Projector shader. We added support for it from version 5.20.03 onwards.

If you want to make different shaders in the material use different UVW tags on a material assignment, it is not currently officially supported in the latest versions, but we will expose it for use in the future.

This is exactly what I mean. "Expose in near future"? Vray 5 waits for this 1,5 years now almost. I can't believe I keep coming every 3-4 months on forum to just complain on missing basic features... Despite all other updates - which are great btw.

Hi deyan.hadzhiev - Could you please reply further? Right now, I'm working on series of optimized objects - imported with diffuse on 1-3uv + normals on another UV map. How exactly should I work with that? This is not acceptable.

Hi RwVision we are still working on how these channels would be easiest to use, because we don't want to reintroduce the UVW manager at this point. But we will have some way of selecting a UVW channel soon.

Any timeframe for this? This is something I liked to have since the first release…

something similar to corona 8 would be nice and a huge improvement for vray 5 to get back to the level of 3.7 regarding the uvw tags. But to be honest i'm as unhappy with maxon about this is as i'm with CG.

                Hello

Bumping this up, since it has been another 7 months - we were told that a solution is on it's way - Already Vray 6 launched and do we have a solution to this yet?

Hi RwVision, we have exposed the VRayUVWChannel shader and the UVWChannel node in V-Ray 6 and the latest 5.2 releases. Both of these can be used to specify a UVW Tag by index, which effectively makes the position of the material assignment irrelevant. Please do note, that using this shader/node also makes the shader/node that are using them to discard any offset and tiling options specified in the material assignment. If additional offset or tiling options are necessary, the projector shader or the transformations in the UVW Channel node may be used.

Great! Missed that one, thank you!

The UVW channel simply corresponds to every UVW tag in c4d's object?

It is basically selecting a UVW tag which shall be used by the shader/node. The UVW tags are indexed from 0 (and 0 being the leftmost UVW tag on the object). The special value of -1 is always using the fist available UVW tag (i.e. the leftmost), so in most cases it is equivalent to using channel 0.
