  • Rceive GI option not working

    Hi,

Since I'm getting constant GI flickering in scene (problem for another topic) I tried to disable the GI on the object.

Turns out that the Object's tag Receive GI option does not work - any reports of that?

The cube has all GI options off, yet it still gets the GI illumination from floor:

    Hey, RwVision,

Thank you for the feedback. During my test I think is working at an acceptable level. Could please disable the SUN and check it once again. For the flickering problem with LC, I think there few options which you can tweak to get flickering-out results. 1/ Increase the LC and adaptive Subdivs 2/ Decrease the MAX Rays intensity. Flickering is caused by render noise or quality issues.

    Cheers,

      Cheers,
      - what does that mean, can you post an example?

As said earlier, Receive GI is not working, and it's not light related - attaching photo with example with area light - cube still gets the GI on back:

On the other hand I'm glad you mentioned the LC flicker - I tried even highly overdosed setting like 3000-4000 LC subdivs 20-150 retrace threshold and 0.001 samples size. And it is a simple scene. Had to split the animation into 2, where a part is without gi.

Once my commercial project is done I will prepare a file, which does not break my NDA and will send the scene - should I contact you directly to test it?

      Cheers

          Hey, Rafal and Sirio,

Thank you all for the extra feedback. Ok, as attached files I added the screenshot from init_GI test and scene file as well. Rafal, of course you can contact me. By the way, about the flickering issue with LC, try to change it to BF and enable the denoiser options, (I know BF is slower) but you can avoid the extra tweaking and maybe you can save more time.

          Cheers,

I know but BR is too slow for any use and it's noise is totally unacceptable And the scene is simple. I really don't know who ever would switch to total BR - time wise it's 4-5x slower and nastier.

Rafal, You can decrease the render time when using BF as a lower option value of the Max Subdivs and threshold settings and enabling denoiser we have V-Ray, Nvidia, and Intel. Brute Forse is widely used in complex scene and setups, and animation mostly because avoid flickering problems. It is my personal opinion of course.

boyan Your example just confirms the problem - we are talking about receive GI , not the Generate option. Of course in your scene, the cube still gets the GI, after disabling:

                  Hey, Rafal,

Thank you for your persistence and observations. I appreciate that. Yes, I will log the glitch into our system. I saw the problem. Maybe, if you disable the option located in the menu Visibility Options -> "Cast Shadows" of plain object might be the solution for now?

Keep you posted about the fix.

                      Hey, Rafal, Sirio,

The issue was fixed and added to today's stable build. Again, thank you for the excellent feedback. The Dev team did fantastic work as well.

                      Happy Rendering
