  • Vray Geometry and UVW Transform

I have a Vray Geometry with a Node material in the Material Tag slot. In my Node Material I am using a UVW Transform Node and there I changed the size(Transform S).
The Vray Geometry doesn't taking over the size changes.

Is there a way to make it taking over?

    Thanks..

    Hello haniel1107,

Would you mind sharing a simple test scene for this issue so we can have a look? Also, please specify the exact versions of V-Ray, C4D and your OS. Thank you.

          Hi haniel1107 ,
you are trying to use the node system with something outside of it (in your case the displacement parameters).
While it is not hard, it needs a few steps to set up.

You need to tell the texture you're using for displacement to take its tiling from a different source than the Material Tag.
In order for that to happen you need a per texture mapping option and a connection to the UVW Transform node.
And that setup looks like this:
          1. wrap the texture inside of a VRayBitmapTex
          2. add a xpresso node and connect the tiling of the VRayBitmapTex and the UVW Transform node
Please see the attached image and let me know how this workaround performs for you.

            Hi Yunal,

            thanks for this.
I would need to figure out how xpresso work and will try it out.
Honestly I am not so experienced with xpresso.

Easier of course would be to use the foreseen material slot.

BTW, is it because I tried a node material for this slot?

              Hi Haniel,

Honestly I am not so experienced with xpresso.
yeah, xpresso is really nifty for everyday production tasks, definitely worth taking a closer look into.

Easier of course would be to use the foreseen material slot.
That still works. Just keep in mind it is a Material tag, so its influence cannot be on a texture basis. It will affect your whole tiling, not only the diffuse map

BTW, is it because I tried a node material for this slot?
Well, not really, no. If you tried to use a classic material, you would still need to connect, let's say the diffuse texture to the displacement texture in the Geometry tag. A proper texture instancing concept in c4d would be really useful in this case.
Anyway, it's not about the type of material you choose, but about the different approach to the tiling - texture vs. material.

Hope this makes sense and do let me know if you need any assistance with the xpresso setup
