  • Environment Fog Bug? Ghosting of Invisible lights in Fog, even with with 'Affect Atmospherics' turned off

    Hi Devs,
I've got an automotive scene with 3 main lights linked to the cars only and set to invisible. I also have environment fog in the scene. My issue is that a faint ghosting/brightness from the lights is still appearing in the fog. I've also turned off 'Affect Atmospherics' in all the lights, but still no luck. It's also culling atmospherics behind the light as well, as shown in the pylon light glow. Is this a bug or is there something else I'm not taking into account?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim

    Hello KernitTheFont,

Would you mind sharing a simplified scene where the issue is reproducible so we can have a look? Also, please let me know if you are rendering with V-Ray or V-Ray GPU, along with your Cinema4D and V-Ray versions. Thank you.

      Thanks Aleksander,

      I'm using CPU with C4D r25.121 + Vray 6 before the latest hotfix (6.00.01?).

I'll DM you the scene link,
      Many thanks!

There also seems to be an issue with that Environment Fog in the Atmospheric Effects.RGB render pass, which seems to be overexposed in my composited multipass EXR. It's fine in the flat RGBA and effectsResult.RGB layers though:

Oh and another issue aleksandar.kasabov : The alpha for my barbed wire card doesn't seem to work properly through the fog, even though the black is 0.0.0

You can see it especially when you flip to the Atmospheric Effects pass:

            Hi all,
Just a quick update and PSA for everyone:

So after much to-ing and fro-ing with the devs over several weeks, it looks like the Environment Fog is broken in its current Multipass form and buggy in RGBa form. The devs are currently working on fixing it (Bugs VC4D-1690, VC4D-1699), so until then, be careful not to have invisible lights intersecting the fog within the camera frustum or use cards with alphas within fog.
            Hoping for a speedy fix!

            Cheers,
            Tim
