  • Override Background in Render Settings

Hi, I am struggling with the override background option in Vray Render settings. I loaded an HDRI map in the Override Background slot, adjusted exposure, and checked the scene's real HDRI map as invisible. It all works OK in the Viewport, but I just rendered the production render and when saved I noticed, that Override Map did not save in the final image, but as a transparent - alpha channel. How to set the scene so that the Override background will not render as alpha but will be seen on the backround?

    Hello lukas_kostka

Is it correct to understand that you can see the correct background in the VFB but when saved it is transparent?

Are you by any chance saving your files in .png format? Saving your renders in .png format will lead to a Transparent Background. Try .jpeg or .exr.

Hello Viktor, Thank you. You are right, I saved as png. That could be it, didn't think of that! Thanks..

viktor_angelov Regarding the Override .. I still have issues when setting it to work. I test it in a simple scene and it works fine. But when I try to make it work in the scene with the model, very often it does not work. I cannot figure out, what is the difference and what am I doing wrong in my scene. Originally, I wanted to override with HDRI but as you can see from the attachment, even simple color does not work. Any idea on what I might be doing wrong? Thank you!

              Hello lukas_kostka

Please, send us your scene so we can investigate further. You can do that by Submitting a Request or sending it here.
Please, make sure to include all the HDRIs, assets and textures that might be needed.

Hello, viktor_angelov , thank you, here is the link to the scene, both HDRI and the scene seem to be too large to send. I used HDRI from the link below but tested more of them. On interactive render, only black color shows, on production render, some weird colors on the background. Thank you.

                  Hello lukas_kostka

First of all make sure to have all of your lights set to invisible.

Second, be aware that the Background might be darker if you have a Physical camera enabled. This is because the exposure of the image is controlled by the Physical exposure controls or the Exposure value in the V-Ray Physical camera settings. The camera exposure affects all parts of the render, including the background object.

There are two things you can add to your workflow to complete achieve what you aim for:

                  1. Add the Beauty Render Elements. Render the image. Add an Exposer layer to the Background Channel and increase its value. Please, find the video recording useful: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...7_11-56-44.mp4

                  OR

                  2. Go to the Render Settings > V-Ray > Overrides > Environment > Override Background, Click on the texture that you have added to the tab and edit it in the Attributes menu. I have recorded a video for this workflow as well: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...7_12-00-02.mp4

Please, let me know if you have further questions.
