  • Constant crashing using nodes

Vray has become one of the most unstable render engines I use in C4D.

Adjusting color correction node in a simple scene with displacement, crash.

Adjusting gradient on a light node in a different scene? Crash.

I haven't seen this level of instability since the old octane render days. It's ALWAYS when im using nodes.

    4090, recommended drivers.

    Bug report attached

I just rolled back to 6.2.02 because I couldn't use the ramp node or gpu render. Not much of a solution but maybe vray 7 big new feature is stable node materials and material manager. That's all I would want.

Thank you for the reports, I am really sorry to read this. Anyhow, could you please help us improve V-Ray with a scene file/s in which you described the problems with VGPU and textures as node.

I appreciate all your efforts in advance.

Hey seth_richardson, I'm sorry that you experience such crashes and instability.

Upon inspecting your bug report, the most highly likely reason for the crashes to me seems your CPU - it is one of the affected Intel CPUs (13th and 14th gen) which are known to experience instability and silicon degradation issues. Since over time the silicon degradation continues, it is expected more and more frequent crashes to be experienced, especially if you are using CPU heavy applications (like V-Ray CPU).

I suggest trying if the same setup on different hardware (older Intel CPUs or AMD CPUs) still leads to such instability? Also there is a microcode patch from Intel relating this issue - I suggest looking into how you can apply this. Also providing an example scene would be helpful.

I updated my drivers for that today, I noticed when I turned off interactive light cache it was much more stable in my case. I will go revisit the scene that was crashing repeatedly here tonight and see if its better after having updated my bios.
