  • V-Ray Node material editor stutters when zooming in and out - constant refreshing

    Hi All!

I've been working with a smaller screen recently and I do a lot of zooming in and out to navigate the node material editor. I get a lot of sttutering and i realized that this is because the bitmaps are refreshing constantly and the bitmap preview resolution is changing while i'm zooming in and out in the node editor. I Don't know if this is a c4d or a vray issue, but if it would be possible to not refresh and resize all the material preview on every zoom in-out instance i think it would be great. I Think this is an issue because im working with a lot of 15k images for a product animation. I don't think i noticed this stuttering issue previously with smaller bitmaps.

    Hello akos_kiss,

You can control the quality of the swatch and map size for previews through the Cinema 4D Preferences menu, which includes several V-Ray-specific options. To access these settings, navigate to Edit > Preferences > Render > V-Ray > Materials.

Additionally, try renaming your preferences directory to clear the node material database caches, as these can occasionally cause issues. Please note that renaming the directory requires restarting Cinema 4D for the changes to take effect. Once the issue is resolved, you can revert the directory name to restore your previous preferences.

      Hello zhanet.georgieva

Thanks for the reply! I've already set the material preview quality and all corresponding settings to their lowest value and i still have stuttering issues.

I'm not sure i understand the renaming of the preferences directory example You mentioned. Could you please explain this in more detail? Where is this preferences folder you mentioned?

        Hello akos_kiss,

Renaming the preferences folder allows Cinema 4D to generate a fresh set of default preferences upon restarting. This helps resolve issues caused by corrupted, outdated, or conflicting settings stored in the current preferences. Renaming instead of deleting ensures you can restore your original preferences if needed.

Steps to Rename the Preferences Folder
        • Open Cinema 4D and press Ctrl + E to access the Preferences window. Scroll to the bottom to locate the preferences folder path (see screenshot).
        • Click the folder path to open it in your file explorer.
        • Close Cinema 4D completely.
        • Locate the prefs folder within the preferences folder and rename it.
        • Restart Cinema 4D, which will create a new default prefs folder.
        • Create a node material to verify if the issue is resolved.
