  • VRay Gaussian Problem

Hi, I have a problem with the new Vray Gaussian. I try to insert the file with the .ply extension and nothing happens, no point cloud imported. The procedure I do is this: Vray Menu - Geometry - Vray Gaussian. After this it appears in the list of objects. I select it and from the appropriate button, I go to choose the geometry to load. After this nothing happens.
My system is this: MacOS 14.6.1 Cinema 4D 2025.1.2
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hello luca_bazzini,

I'll share two links with you—one with information about V-Ray Gaussian Splats and another with a tutorial that walks through the process of using it:If you still experience any issues after following the steps, please share the .ply file with us so we can investigate further.

Hi, I tried the steps in the tutorial (they are the ones I already did) but nothing happens. I attach a screenshot with the object info and the model

        Hi luca_bazzini,

Thanks for sharing the .ply file with us. I tested it by trying to import it into Cinema 4D and into other software and web viewers, but nothing appeared in any of them. This suggests that the issue might be with the .ply file itself, rather than with V-Ray Gaussian Splats.

Could you please share more details about this .ply file? Where did you obtain it? Was it downloaded from a specific source or generated from another software?

          Hi again luca_bazzini,

After further investigation, I saw that your .ply file is a standard mesh-based PLY, not a Gaussian splat PLY.

Currently, V-Ray Gaussian Splats only works with Gaussian PLY files.

You are welcome to find more information about 3D Gaussian Splatting on our blog: https://www.chaos.com/blog/3d-gaussi...r-in-rendering
