  • Issue with Using Flat Image as Background in V-Ray 7 for Cinema4D 2023

    I am trying to use a flat image as a background in V-Ray 7 for Cinema4D 2023.

According to the documentation https://docs.chaos.com/display/VC4D/...+Matte+Objects , I should assign the image as a texture for the Env. Matte Texture.

This option applies the texture to the scene's reflections, refractions, GI, and background, and also uses it as a secondary matte. This override is found under Render Settings > V-Ray > Overrides > Environment.

However, when I follow these instructions, the background image appears as if it were an HDRI image, which is not the desired effect. I need the flat image to be used as a simple background without the HDRI effect.

Thanks in advance to help me.

    Hey, Davide,

Thank you for the report! In order to achieve this result, you can use the 1/ V-Ray Background render element or 2/ Background Object but with a frontal projection of the material tag as well.

    Cheers,

      Hi davide_monopoli,

      You can also:
      1. Use the Cinema4D Background object. Simply create a V-Ray material and add the texture to the diffuse channel. Then apply the V-Ray material to the Cinema4D Background object and render your scene. Please check c4d_background_object.gif below.
      2. Add the background image in Post. After you render your scene, add a Background layer to the Layers panel and select your image. Please refer to vfb_background_layer.gif below.

Let me know if you have further questions.
