I don't know about in Houdini, but in Maya if you go to the overrides tab in the camera, there's overscan options there.

In camera > View Tab. There is Screen window size. Maybe is what you searching for ?

Hi guys, actually screen window size in "View" tab of the camera is supported and will be applied to the final render, but it won't be saved in exr metadata.

We implemented the Houdini way to set the overscan, because it is visible in the viewport. If we add the V-Ray for Maya settings in ROP, the won't be showed in the viewport. But I can add this in todo list

That’s exactly what I’m after. But when using the Houdini “screen window size” it changes the actual output render to have the crop to the filmback+overscan, as opposed to have the render displayed as filmback and have the overscan in the metadata/header of the exr.
is there a way to work around this behaviour?

The more I use the built-in v-ray overscan, the more I'm finding I do like it like this. I guess I had just been used to manually making the overscan with the camera and resolution.
