  • Houdini 18 + Does V-Ray work with Solaris and LOP ?

    Hi guys,
Sorry but I have a quick question. Im thinking of upgrading to Houdini 18 because of the lighting tools. I want to use V-Ray GPU with the LOPs. Does V-Ray work with Houdini 18 Solaris/LOPs ? Thanks.

    Hey, Steve,

no, not yet. The devs are working on it, we already have a basic integration but we're not ready to publicly release anything yet.

    Cheers!

Apparently it's not very impressive in terms of the speed of interactively editing / pruning things compared to the likes of clarisse but it's doing a hell of a lot more. I wonder can every other software achieve something similar with their implementation of USD?

Also very interested in this. Does Chaos Group have any roadmap/dates for its USD integration?

In the absence of a USD delegate, what's the timeframe for regular stable release and not a nightly build for H18?

We're planning a stable Update 1 release with the changes from the official release up to this point. We hope to be able to focus heavily on Solaris and other new features once that is out of the way.

david.anastacio We are already looking into USD and a cross-platform integration. It will be a big challenge for the developers so it's hard to give a time frame at this point. As always - we'll keep you updated with any news.

                        Best regards!

This makes me very happy. I want to create a render engine agnostic pipeline. Authoring assets as USD that can plug into any software that supports USD. And rendering with V-Ray, Renderman, Arnold, and even a real time version. .... so freaken cool!
