is there any way to use triplanar mapping with a deforming object (for example with a rest attrib created before the animation). For some reason I have the impression that I already did that, but maybe that was back in maya.

Add "object properties" to the object, you'll find the controls there.

As bdancer said, add V-Ray Object Properties from V-Ray shelf, in that menu which will appear in geo node parameters has a tab "Reference Mesh", just switch it's mode to "Rest Attributes".

This doesnt seem to work with alembics. Is there an other way to do it?

You could unpack the alembic, but this can slow down exporting step of the rendering if the alembic contains heavy meshes.

we cant really do that in our pipeline without breaking it and also creating heavy vrscenes :/

Hey, LeoYfver ,
we added the option to use another copy of the Alembic node time-shifted to Frame 1 specifically for you guys about half a year ago. I hope we haven't forgotten to inform you
Set the Reference Mesh Mode to Object and point it to a Geometry node holding the same alembic SOP, with a Time Shift SOP set to frame 1.
We could not find a way to make this work with rest attributes.
Here's an example: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10AM...ew?usp=sharing
edit: I've updated the file ~5 minutes after messaging here - I was naming things and had the wrong Geometry node under Reference Object. Messaging in case you've downloaded it meanwhile.Last edited by Gosho.Genchev; 07-05-2020, 04:25 AM.

Dont think i got info or i missed it but that is great actually! Ufortunately this is a deforming geo with changing pointorder so thats why had rest attribute on the object :/

Gosho.Genchev maybe a mapping input could be exposed so that we could use vrayUserColor to pickup the rest and plug it in.

The rest attribute seems to have no effect on any of the noise maps from Vray (bercon or default) when set to object/world space, is there a way to get this to work?
Thanks.
Make sure to add the rest to the object properties and then use a "UV named" node to load the "rest" attribute instead of the default "uv" and plug that in to your noise.

Cheers.
I went through the same journey some time ago too, had to inquire the devs about it to get it to work.
