  • Render Element Reflection Glossiness

    Hi guys,

    i was just rendering some elements and couldnt find the Reflection Glossiness. I then saw it is in the list with the more tech related Render Elements.

    Is there a reason it is not in the same Color Channel Element list as the other Color Based Elements?

    It was just easier to implement it like that, we may consider moving it the color channel node (or move all color channels to separate nodes) at some point.

      Moving all the color channel nodes to the main list sounds great!
      That would prevent one to having rename each render element to its corresponding colorchannel...
      Plus you can use Tab to search the one you want

        Well.. there are a few ways to not rename it every time:
        1. make some hda
        2. use python templates:
        Check sub-directly "vfh_home/templates/re", there are some python files, those files are used to build the menu ROP->Images->Render Elements->Templates.
        Create some use directory like "vfh_user_home" and point VFH_USER_HOME env var to it, then create sub-directory "templates/re" there.
        Copy and rename some template file from "vfh_home/templates/re", edit it to create the nodes you need with names u want.

          Ah ok thanks, we'll look into that.

          Another question regarding Render Elements, in Maya the light selects have the ability to output Direct and Indirect Specular and Diffuse, however I havent seen those in Houdini just yet. Is it perhaps planned that they'll be included in a not to distant future...?

                the devs have added the Indirect modes to the Light Select element.
