  • Use flowmap in material?

Silly beginner question again: I'm doing a calm, flowing brook (still image for now) and was wondering if I can bake/save or somehow use a calculated flowmap to make a normal/bump map inside the material? If I save it as a texture on disk, wouldn't that require a huge texture if applied to a long, sweeped, water surface? I haven't found a way to do any of it, and don't know if it's possible. I'm on Houdini 18 and the flowmap nodes are all beta, maybe they're more refined in 18.5?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, two minutes after posting I figured out how to do it. Flowmap to color -> vray userColor into bump slot. Turns out I started at the wrong end and made things unnecessarily difficult.

EDIT 2: Well, spoke too soon. Is it even possible to use the flowmap to drive a bump map, that is affecting a bump map to make it look like it's following the flow?

    Hey Monkeybrother ,

Any chance for a hip file? I would love to take a look - hopefully we can find a solution.

    Best regards!
