  • (Resolved) vray4 development after vray 5 launch

    Hi,

what are the plans with the transition from vray 4 to vray 5? will fixes go to 4 & 5 for some time (and if so, for how long)?

To be honest, we are not too eager to jump on 5 right away and would like to continue using 4 for some time. This is not because 5 isn't great, it's just because 4 is currently working pretty smoothly and that is the #1 feature for us.

Exactly our feeling too. It was a very long year with constant bug reports, fixes, and improvements, and I'm not very eager to start it all over again anytime soon.
In addition to what ronald_a said, what is the current level of parity between vray 5 and 4 on the features and bugs that were fixed and added in the last months to vray 4? Is everything in vray 5 already? I'm honest, we had zero time to test vray 5 yet.

    Best,

      Hey ronald_a , david.anastacio ,

The official policy of Chaos is to support the current and the previous version of the software. Bug fixes go into the branches for both V-Ray Next and V-Ray 5 and will continue to do so. With V-Ray for Houdini, the same will go for new features - as long as it is possible, we will add them to both V-Ray Next and V-Ray 5.

      Hope that helps!
