  • COPs to Mats

    Hi,
excuse me rather basic question but I cannot really google the solution.
How can I get COP node to work in Vrays material?
I see I can reference to COP node like: op:/obj/cop2net1/OUT_Bump_Large...
But what is the proper Vrays node or where to feed it in?

Embarassingly, it is "Vray file node".
But I will leave it here, if some beginner will try to look it up )

      Hi woytha,

By the way, you don't even need the "op:", you can just use the path to your node, "/OBJ/cop2net1/OUT....", also you can just drag the node you want into the path you want to put it in. And it also supports relative paths "../../cop2net1/OUT...."

      Best,
      David.

Just keep in mind that if you'll be rendering standalone on the farm, you'll need to bake these to images

You can but you don't need too, they'll just get written into the vrscenes, this way you can avoid to keep writing the images over and over again. This usually only becomes an issue when dealing with image sequences since it's a lot of data.

          Best,

I tend to avoid that because lighting scenes are usually many - light and shader tweaks, render after render, and baking to vrscene every time is slowing things down. Could bake a single vrscene and then reference that, but it's less flexible, the vrscene is a closed entity.

              Hey there.

Revisiting this after 3 years and there is no "Vray file node" in the material builder.
How would i get my COPs stuff into the material for example as a displacement texture.
              Thanks and cheers!

              *normal image file worked fine*

Seems it's still there for me (same as 3 years ago ):

Haha i am sorry. thought the name had to be exactly "file node" so i was confused for a moment.
Blame on me but hope we can still be vray friends

Hi, do we need to do something special to get the new COP's in Houdini 20.5 to work with the latest VRay 6.2 builds, or is it not supported yet? (Seems to work fine with the old COP's networks)
