  • quick way to render unconnected frames at once

Hi, Is there a quick way to render unconnected frames at once? like [5,12,43,100],..
    Thx

yep I guess that the way but I don't know how to trigger the render as usually I click on ""Render to Disk" button in the rop, which with multiple rop/frame doesn't work anymore

hmm, we do that with deadline. not sure how to do it without tbh. but it's free for up to two machines, so you might as well try that.

By default Houdini does not have that (the mantra ROP is the same). You only get a start and end frame fields, plus a nth frame increment.

Like ronald_a said, you need a render manager, deadline for example, then you can feed it what ever string of frames you want. V-Ray even ships with deadline submitter (I'm not familiar with it though).
Alternatively I think you can also try to use hqueue.

          Best,

Here is attached the setup. Basically 3 rops with different frame to render.
The "Submit to Deadline" button doesn't seem to work as the Log Console report that the command is not found. see attached
Still I can click on the "Render" button of the vray Deadline node.
It renders the 3 nodes but doesn't update the frame to render, so basically render 3 times the same frame and keeps saving with the same file name.

I would be grateful for some help. Anyone knows that problem?
              Thx

              also attached the Houdini file

you still need to have deadline installed. the submitter node won't do anything alone.

Fetch triggers the render with input rop, but for some reason doesn't consider the input rop frame setting...so it only renders the current frame.

Thanks. I didn't get that Deadline was a third party software.

Hi creac , this is a simple setup with TOPs.
                      1. Create a wedge top and set a variable with type "integer" and wedge type "value list" - here you could set all frame numbers you want.
                      2. Then create a ropfetch top and set V-Ray ROP in it, but enable "override frame" and set wedge variable from previous step as frame number.

little update, I've added another wedge with same variable name but wadge type is set to range and here you could set a range of frames, then merge both wedges. This way you don't need to add every frame from a range manually.

Excuse me, I am quiet unfamiliar with wedges. But if I open the file and render the vray node, I get no override by the wedge.
                            Am I missing something?

                              Hello,
sorry for lame question. But where I am suppose to render the test scene?
It does not look like I should render it with Vray Render node...
