  • Instance lights outside of Solaris?

Is it possible to render instance lights outside of Solaris using the instance OBJ node and instancepoint based expressions? I get a bunch of errors when I try. I also tried point expression to pull in SOP data on a single light and got more errors so I'm guessing this is not possible either?

    I'm using V-Ray Core 5.10.20 [5322b47e].

I'm getting a lot of this kind of thing but I could see from your screenshot that it should work! I tried saving the instance points off and loading them in so that the network didn't have to cook and that has worked. I suspect it's something to do with the network generating my instance points also being rendered from a separate output so it's being evaluated multiple times for different purposes. Not sure but that could be it.

        Hey lloydwood ,

Sure, here's an example using the instance attribute in a Geometry node. It's a bit involved on the wrangle part for the preview but other than that - nothing complicated going on there. To note is the Object Properties on the Geometry node holding the lights - Cd and intensity are specified as forced attributes under the main tab - if you don't do that, V-Ray will automatically filter them out to speed up the export and render.

Might be a workflow we haven't considered - could you please share that hip file?

        Best regards!

edit: I didn't realize Andrei has already replied Regardless, hopefully the scene helps!

Thanks Gosho! I'll take a look at that scene.

Andrei - Yes it is happening in IPR. I'll email you the scene because it won't let me upload it here.
