We added this a long time ago so we can support image sequences, e.g. "myBackground.$F4.exr".

Thanks for this. It is all working great. It's quite confusing UI wise. I would never have thought to look in the ROP for a place to set the BG plate. With the file picker in the layer - it is the obvious place to try to set a BG image.

The reason is animated texture file path ($F), you can't do this with VFB file picker...

Yes I understand this. Maybe a message should be added to a tooltip on the file field so users know where the proper place to add a path is.
