  • Sprites?

Hi. I'm wondering what the best approach is for rendering sprites with V-Ray for Houdini? I need to have a disc but with a falloff on the edges. Each particle also has it's own colour/intensity/opacity. I have all those attributes working fine but I'm not sure how to map an image to the opacity to get the falloff. I tried packed primitives with a grid copied to every particle but that just caused Houdini to crash as soon as I hit render. There are around 40K particles so it's nothing major. I'm just not sure of the V-Ray approach to this.

    I'm using Houdini 18.5.499 - V-Ray core 5.10.20

Is it possible to send me that scene?

I can't send the scene unfortunately because it's under NDA. I did manage to get it working fine though with the packed primitive setup. I cached the points out before the copy and that seems to have sorted the crashing issue so it must have been something further up in the network that was causing it.

If you'll be able to reproduce the crash with some setup that you could share it'll be much appreciated.
We could also sign the NDA.
