  • What is this UVWGenMayaPlace2dTexture Vop?

I have found that I have to copy this node and use it as in the attached image to set my UV sets when I import a model from Maya into Houdini. Is there another way for me to set the UV set name? Is there even another node I can use?

I see this node in the V-Ray API. Is there any way I can generate this node from a Python script? And why isn't it in the regular Houdini node menu?

I think I have found some of my answers here: https://docs.chaos.com/display/APPSDK/UVWGens

However, it is still unclear to me why these nodes must be manually created each time I use a .vrscene file to move a model from Maya to Houdini, and why that isn't documented anywhere. This seems like a bug.

      Hey colin_hannon ,

This is the internal V-Ray name for the UV Channel (Name) VOP under the V-Ray Tab menu - LINK to documentation. It will look for a vertex set on the geometry with the same name as the "UV Name" parameter.
Alternatively, there exists the UV Channel (Index) VOP - LINK. I would advice against using it as it relies on the export order of the vertex channels (attributes) - which is not guaranteed to be the same between renders, especially if you add/remove some attributes.

However, it is still unclear to me why these nodes must be manually created each time I use a .vrscene file to move a model from Maya to Houdini, and why that isn't documented anywhere
Those are automatically created when you import a material using the VRScene SOP -> Import tab. How are you importing the VRScenes?

      Best regards!
