The funny thing with Nuke is that Fusion is in so many ways a better product. It's been around longer, is much faster for the majority of tasks, etc. It's just the industry's weird focus on monoculture when it comes to software. Producers too often get the names of software packages in their heads rather than the names of artists, and think that the software makes the end result.
