  • gradientRamp from hairsampler gives different results in hair shader

    hello!

when i use the hairsampler distance along strand with the gradient ramp node it works fine on strands, both with mapped and position. But when i connect it to vray hair "dye color" the mapping becomes alot different/broken, for example it is correct when i use the diffuse input in the same hairshader.

linux centos, houdini 17.0.459 nightly build, vray for houdini "41203", "383fae7_4509"

    Hi,

Yes you right , i have the same issue, is kind to work but not totally. When i see your comparaison It seem not linear maybe you need apply a gamma curve 2.2 ?

    Have a bice day

I've messaged the developer who implemented the Hair Next material. I'll come back to you guys with more info once I have a response.

      Cheers!

        Hey guys,

developer says the internal color correction for the multiple scattering algorithm is responsible for the slight change in appearance when using the Dye color. It's possible to equalize the Diffuse and Dye colors for the Hair material in the future. Alternatively, the transmission and primary/secondary tints can be used in place of the Dye color and the Melanin parameters to gain full control over the color of the strands. If you go with this approach, it would be best to set the Melanin to 0 and the Dye color to pure white.

        Hope that helps!
