  • (Fixed) [HOU-1289] bundles on lightmask in subnet

    Hi guys,

we seem to have some weird behavior with lightbundles on lightmasks in multiple geonodes in a subnet.
those bundles are also specified in the ROP.

on some geo nodes we have wildcards in the light mask ie.: @lightbundle01 ^light002 (light002 is listed in lightbundle001)

unfortunately, this is really random and difficult to reproduce, hence i dont have a testscene. reassigning lights fixed the issue for now.
i did so by manually selecting any other light, the geo rendered. reassigning the bundles/wildcards that didnt work before after that, and it works again...

i was wondering if you have experiences some unstable behavior on your side.

    thanks

    Hey there,

we get reports every now and then about incorrect behavior with Sub-networks, Forced objects, etc. The list of possible combinations gets exponentially larger as the number of nodes in the scene increases. We're working internally to develop tests that check all possible ways a scene can be set up and compare the V-Ray render output to Mantra's to ensure the result is the same.

I'll check for issues with light bundles and ping you once we have a fix. Just to clarify, you're experiencing issues with Light Bundles linked to Geometry nodes placed inside Sub-networks, correct (e.g. Light Mask parameter is @bundle1 where bundle1 contains some V-Ray lights) ?

    Thank you!

      Hi Gosho.Genchev ,

      thanks for the fast response!

Indeed, what you wrote is how it is set up currently. The bundles are also specified on the ROP in the candidate lights.
Would you benefit of getting the scene to try if you see some of that behaviour on your side? Like i said its really random, and a refresh of the entries in the lightmask solved the problem...

Sure, hip files are always welcome, please send it to gosho.genchev@chaosgroup.com if you're under NDA (or just prefer not to attach it here) - the file will not be shared.

        Thank you!

            Hi Gosho.Genchev

Is there any news on this matter?

Ah, yes, we got a fix last week!

We realized it's Houdini not updating the links on scene re-open - SideFX helped out a bit and it should now be working correctly.

              Hope that helps!

                Thats great news! Thank you!

We refrained from updating VRay regarding that Phone project, as the 6th of November stable release introduced more issues with the IPR, and Candidate/Force Objects and Subnets.
We'll look into trying out newer versions! From which release onwards is that fix included?

Bundles fix was committed on the 7th of November, the Subnetwork-related issues have been an ongoing process with the last commit on the 12th. I gave a quick render to the scene you gave me a while back - as far as I can tell, it seems to render as expected, altho I could have missed something.

                  6th of November stable release
I would suggest moving to the nightly/nightlies if not for this project then for the next one. It uses a newer V-Ray version (which means it includes fixes in the V-Ray Core), and future updates will be based on it.

IPR, and Candidate/Force Objects and Subnets
If you hit any, please ping us and we'll fix them.

                  Cheers!

Thank you for testing out the scene on your side! Will get back if any issues occur!
