  • (Fixed) [HOU-1356] lightselects for volumes not working with bucket sampler

Something fishy is going on when rendering volumes in general. If i have bucket sampler on i get a blotchy volume render even if i turn of lightcache or probabilistic volumetrics, the lightselects are not working either on the vdb. With progressive i get a nice render and lightselects are working on the vdb.

Yup, there is something wrong here, I'll be logging and we'll resolve ASAP once I know more.

    Thank you!

LeoYfver , you guys are using the nightlies/nightly builds, correct?

We found a couple of issues with the light select and volumes which will be fixed tomorrow. However, a couple of things I'd like to clarify:

      1. could you please double-check that Light Select does not work for you when rendering with Volume Light Cache disabled? I'm asking because the Volume Light Cache on the Shader (Smoke tab) should be disabled - not V-Ray's Light Cache.
even if i turn of lightcache or probabilistic volumetrics

      2. The noisy render on the second image is due to the Volume Light Cache on the Shader - reducing the value should start cleaning this up but also slow down the render. It looks fine in Progressive because the Volume Light Cache is not used with the Progressive sampler.

      3. And finally, regarding the light select only working in Progressive - we were missing a certain parameter export which should fix those issues - I suspect you were rendering with Volume Light Cache enabled which was causing problems if the parameter in question is not exported.

All in all, you should be good to go with tomorrow's nightlies.

      All the best!
