  • Cryptomatte Generated, but No Cryptomatte Layers found in AE

    OS: Windows 10
    Vray Version: vray_adv_43000_houdini17.5.460_08b56ea_6115
    Houdini Version: houdini17.5.460

I was able to generate the CryptoMatte exr files. They open in Adobe After Effects, but when i apply the Cryptomatte effect in AE, results in "No Cryptomatte Layers found". The other layers open fine, except for the cryptomatte. I was going to use it instead of the ObjectProperties.

Please let me know if it is a user error or system error.

    thank you

Hello maxtrks28 ,it seems to work properly on my side. I've tried crypotmatte by name and material, how many crypto elements did you have, what types are they, can you send me a scene where they are not saved/accessible. Cryptomatte can be used only with bucket sampler.

Sure, here is the link to the folder with the hip file and the generated exr files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zdt9d4ms9...okQmK0_Aa?dl=0

Does it open in After Effects for you? Because i can generate the exr file, but it does not open in After Effects.

Is it correct that one cryptomatte channel generates four exr files?

Also, is it correct that the exr files for the rest of the channels are generated for each channel instead of all channels being all in one exr file? It used to be that if there were many render channels, like lights, GI, reflection, they were all wrapped into one exr file. Now each channel generates an individual exr for that channel.

Hi again maxtrks28 , easiest way to use cryptomatte is with multichannel exr. Removing ${AOV} tag from image output name will force V-Ray to save the exr file as multichannel, with all the elements into it.

thank you for the info. So after removing ${AOV} tag and and rendering as one exr file, the Cryptomatte now works in After Effects...
