  • Cryptomatte for any Photoshop EXR plugin

    VFH [Info] * V-Ray 4.30.01
    Houdini 18.0.391

    Hi Guys,

    A couple of things.

I can't get multi channel EXRs importing cryptomatte properly with Vray for Houdini. Any clues?
Rendering with Mantra gives perfect cryptomattes which work with exrIO in Photoshop and in vanilla AfterFX.
Vray renders, cryptomatte works fine in AfterFX but does not work at all in Photoshop, just really weird alphas.
ProEXR plugin for photoshop doesn't parse cryptomattes from either Mantra or Vray.
    Help!

    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hey, Jim,

just grabbed the exrIO plugin for Photoshop from their website - here's what I'm getting:

Name:	Photoshop_2020-03-04_17-36-39.png
Views:	949
Size:	1.32 MB
ID:	1063327

This seems to be the same as the way the cryptomatte masks work in their promo video here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI3I...ture=emb_title

I am not sure what the problem is - could you show us a screenshot or give us a hip file that produces those unusable cryptomattes ?

    Thanks!

This is what I get... But rendering from Mantra it comes through perfectly.

I have tried all of the cryptomatte output methods, node name, material etc.

It's the multipart, looks like Photoshop/Exr-IO doesn't like it.

Yet a multipart from mantra works fine.
This is true for vray for max as well {fails}.

Support for exrIO would be excellent as it is so quick for multichannels. We might have to begrudgingly use another renderer that thoroughly supports cryptomatte. I think vray is the only one we have come across that fails here.

In fact after further testing the cryptomatte vray render element doesn't work in any exr import plug in in photoshop, but every other renderer I have tried does. Could this be escalated to an issue please?

Hello again Jim Meston , can you send me your test scenes with other renderers, because I couldn't force 32bit multi-layered multipart exr with cryptomatte to work with photoshop from any renderer. Everything is just fine with Nuke, but couldn't in photoshop.
exr files will also be helpful

Hello Jim Meston , I've checked your scene. the exr file which matra outputs is not a multi-part, it's just a multi-channel one. I'm uploading a V-Ray version of your file so you can check if it work for you.

Thank you very much for this.
I loaded my old setup just to sanity check and it works. I have had some install issues so in between have updated to one of the latest nightlies.
Everything seems to work correctly now. Thanks for your time on this!!
