Well this has been quite the saga. I think we've isolated the scale issue down to a frustum cull we're doing. Again, doesn't happen in Redshift so it took a while to track it down. See link for a simplified .zip that shows the issue.
Check the post its inside the file for guidance. Rendering a sequence of frames while frustum culling the instances causes issues with scaling. Rendering a single frame won't show the issue, so the first thing to do is render out the sequence from 1500-1570. You should start seeing plants blow up to a giant size in the first 20-30 frames. Also included an .mp4 showing the issue on our end.
