  • VFB background image issue

    Hi,

Bumped into an issue here using background images in the VFB. After adding a background image, every time you start a render that image gets reset and disabled, I can add the image again and it will again disappear if I render.
    Could you look into this.

    VFH build number: 7069 hash3819bc8 from 04 May 2020
    Windows 10
    Houdini 18.0.397

    Best,
    David.

There is a ROP control for the background image, I guess it overrides this setting. Try ROP one anyway because it supports animated paths.
But I'll have to improve this or figure out why it resets the image because it should not...

Yes, I was aware of the ROP setting, but the setting on the VFB is a lot more handy for the artists for loading plates and switch them from FG/BG, ON/OFF.
But the sequence support is neat. Thanks for letting me know you will look into it

        Hi!

Really like the ROP option as it also allows for expressions in the path. We use it to link to the plate of the current shot. That way the correct plate is loaded automatically and artists dont need to browse for it.
The on / off option is still there as well as fg toggle so you can use that.

The resetting is a bit annoying though. Having VFB store the settings between renders would be a great update.

        Cheers!

          Hi,

Yeah, it works just now as straight forward, and you need to actualty start a render for it to appear in the VFB. Also if you disable the BG image toggle in the VFB it stills gets re-added the next time you render since the ROP forces it ON, so you need to disable it in the ROP.
But I'm sure you could also load the plates via an Environment variable directly on to the VFB, we're doing that for the OCIO configurations. But it would be great that the VBF Background image could support the same features that the ROP.
I would vote for both ways working

          Best,
          David.
