  • Can't change cameras in the ROP node

I change cams in the rop node refresh the ipr and I get an old camera.

Initially I was referencing from a scene control null but even if I drag and drop the cams directly into the camera field in the vray rop I still have to restart Houdini to get vray to render a different camera.

    Nightmare !!!!

Jim Meston have you tried checking in the VFB which camera is used on render? Right-click the render button on the VFB and you get a check list of the cameras to chose from. You can right-click either the production of IPR icons, each control their respective cameras.

Hi Jim Meston , current workflow for changing camera in IPR is RightMouseButton on IPR button in VFB and choose a camera. Is this what you are trying to achieve.

          1.
What if I want to ipr from scene view? Not from camera?
If I have selected some camera by RightMouseButton on IPR button to switch to scene view I have to delete this camera then activate IPR and undo deleting camera. Something is wrong here...

          2.
What is field "Camera" in V-Ray Renderer ROP node for? Changing this field has no effect. Maybe this filed and right mouse menu on render button should be connected in some way???

HI, That is not possible, Vray always need a camera. Just usa a camera like you would the scene view, lock it and off you go and make sure you use the "Export view continuously" from the viewport dropdown to get even better feedback.

            Best,
            David.

In 3ds Max I can set IPR just from scene view. I don't need camera. I can even set exposure settings for non cameras views.

I think, though correct me if I am wrong, if there are no cameras then it renders from scene view. So it is "possible" I think. I am fairly sure I have done it. Maybe I am imagining it though...

I know, but not in Houdini. And to set exposure you need to use the Physical Camera Properties, the ROP has no exposure options.

Unfortunatly not, it will error. Try rendering an empty scene and you'll get this:

Click image for larger version Name:	noCam.JPG Views:	0 Size:	6.3 KB ID:	1082541

Nothing wrong here, V-Ray always need a camera. Only way to start IPR without camera is the workaround you describe.

Camera parameter in V-Ray ROP is used to set which camera to be used with that exact ROP node. Changing it during IPR won't update render, should be restarted. The way you could change cameras during IPR is with RMB on teapot button, in other hand RMB over teapot button is used for preview purpose only and it is not there to change ROP settings.

In 3ds Max I can set IPR just from scene view. I don't need camera. I can even set exposure settings for non cameras views.
V-Ray integration in Houdinit can't start IPR or production render without camera. It is done this way for safety, imagine if you could easily start a 100+ frames animation with wrong camera/scene view just because you wanted to check something during look dev.

This possible but only for IPR and only if you start IPR directly from toolbar, you could not start a production render without or with wrong camera.
