  • (Fixed) [HOU-2343] Vray Fur Crashes Houdini 18.5.408

I tried the Vray Fur node in sop level and it crashes Houdini every time I try to enable it.

Haven't used that node but in Houdini there's lots if ways to make the grass or hair you need, and render with VRay - try the hair generate SOP, it will make the curves that you can then style with the groom tools, create more curves from the guides, and render

      Hi glacierise

Thanks for your reply. If I understood correctly Vrayfur node is supposed to create a fur field. Not necessarily to be used for grooming as there's another material node for that.

It's generating curves - 'field' means something different in Houdini, a volume. The tools in the vray fur node for generating and styling the curves are quite limited and you won't see it in the viewport, you're probably better off with the Houdini tools that make the hair and that you can then send to vray for rendering.

          Hello qassim_ali

There is a workaround for the issue you are experiencing with V-Ray fur. It happens if you haven't set your renderer to V-Ray. Just add a camera and click render before you add the V-Ray fur. That should automatically add you the V-Ray outputs in the OUT network.

            Hey qassim_ali ,

We've resolved the crash when V-Ray is not initialized in the Houdini session by adding a Renderer ROP. The fix will be available starting with tomorrow's nightly builds.

            Best regards!
