  • VRay Clipper bugs?

There seems to be a bug with vray clippers where the two last checkboxes in the UI are ignored.

I have included a .hip file in case you can't replicate.

Vray 5, recent nightlies, Houdini 18.5.462

I can also confirm that this same issue has been there for at least 4 months.

Clip Light Meshes - should clip mesh lights
Use Object Material - will render the material of clipped object on newly created faces instead of material of clip mesh object. But materials should by assigned via Material SOP.

    V-Ray clipper in docs

There seems to be a bug, where lights and mesh lights are not clipped when "Exclude" list is not empty.

So why is there a shadow on the yellow geo from the invisible geo of the blue object?

        Affect Lights should be enabled.

You were correct regarding the "Affect Lights" checkbox.
I'm not sure how I missed that.
However I am still seeing the "Use Object Material" fail to work.
I added a material node to each of the spheres, but it still does nothing.

Add material to V-Ray Clipper not the clip mesh.

That does work, but the tooltip makes it seem that it will use the material from the object being clipped. That would be useful if there was many objects being clipped by the same clipper.

Should be applied with Material SOP, not at geo level.

That last render did have the material applied with a material SOP

Excuse me, but how do I actually used the Vray Clipper? I cannot figure it out from the docs - or there is some kind of a bug.
When I create Vray Clipper node, I cannot access Clipmesh, as it is greyed. How can I activate it?
                    Thanks!

Well, I tried to create a new scene, and it works there. I have no idea why what was wrong. But anyway it works now.

I guess you are in GPU mode?
For 5.x/6.0 mesh mode works only on CPU, for GPU clipper works in "plain" mode.
This will be implemented for GPU for 6.1 update.

Yes I am in GPU mode. Thanks for the clarification. Anyway, it's quite confusing as it is not mentioned in the docs. And the option is being greyed without any error message or obvious reason.
