  • Hanging buckets in RTX with single or dual rtx3090

    Hello,

this has been realy realy frustrating. I have a scene which can render fine with buckets with the following settings
    min subdivs 1
    max subdivs 24
    noise 0.02

but as soon as i try with
    min subdivs 1
max subdivs 40 (or more, I want 56)
    noise 0.02

as soon as i try with the above or more subdivs I get hanging buckets, one of the gpus (in dual gpu enabled mode) hangs and drops power usage to 50% and never complets the buckets.
When i try to render the scene with either of the gpus alone again it gets stuck in the middle of the render. The scene uses arround 14gb of the memory and i have used filecashes to bring it down.

in a sequence of 175 frames i have only managed to render 26 frames. the files usually gets stuck wither on the frame i start the render on, after 5 frames or after 14 frames... completly unpredicatable and i cannot finish my work.

I have tried with the 461.47 nvidia driver and with the 471.11, with houdini 18.5.499 and houdini 18.5.596

I have successfully rendered other scenes with both gpu's enabled.

my vray benchmark scores in rtx mode 5432

plz help. many thanks in advance.

Chaos won't really be able to help you without a scene file. What you describe above is something all of us do all the time and don't come across the problem, so a sample scene would be needed to investigate.

            Dear anthony_kyriazis, hello.

Thank you for the provided scene.
The link is successfully delivered to our e-mail address too.
I have just requested access to open it.

Please share and we will start the investigation.
Also, as a starting point, is the rendering process successful if you choose Progressive mode?

            Thank you in advance.

            Best regards,

Hey anthony_kyriazis I have the same 2x3090 setup, could give it a try if you need some feedback.
