  • Scaling of IES Lights has no effect

    Hi,

In Maya if you scale the Locator for an IES light, it will scale the light distribution of the light to match. If I do the same in Houdini it has no effect, would it be possible to get the same behavior? Also in Maya when an .ies file is loaded the Locator is scaled to matched the size light from the file, in Houdini the viewport geometry is always the same size.

    This is using:
    Vray version 5.10.20
    Houdini 18.5.586

    Thank you

    Hi Andreas,

Scaling lights in Houdini is not really a thing. Any lights, not only V-Ray lights lack a scale parameter in there interface (it's there, but it's hidden since it has no effect and not connected to anything). The area/size of the lights is exclusively driven by the size, area and radius parameters of those lights.

Default Houdini light showing no scale parameter:

Default V-Ray light showing no scale parameter:

You can get around this if you really need to scale lights in the same way you did in Maya, by driving the Size of the lights with the null scale parameter:

    Best,
    David.
