  • (Resolved) Get "Cannot find VRay_GUIMessageProcessing in library" error whenever I try to render

I just upgraded to Houdini to 18.5.596 to match the latest V-Ray for Houdini version (which I then installed) and am just now trying to test it out. Things such as V-Ray lights go into scenes no problem, and V-Ray materials (simple, haven't tried anything other than modifying the color) are properly reflected in the viewport. However, whenever I try to render through either IPR or render I get an error that says "Error initializing V-Ray: Cannot find VRay_GUIMessageProcessing in library. [The specified procedure could not be found.]"

I'm sure I just did something stupid during the installation. Any help?

I'm running Windows 10. I installed the latest V-Ray for that version (June 17 release).

    Dear bentway23, hello.

    Please define the following:
    • is it happening even in a blank new scene
    • .zip or .exe installation process have you chosen
    Waiting for your answer.

    Best regards,
    TS

It is happening even in a blank scene. I also tried with a file created in 18.5.499, same result.
After hitting "OK" on the message I mention in the subject, I get a second message that says, "No module named '_vfh_ipr'", if that helps.
I've tried both the .zip and .exe installations, same result.

              1. Make sure you are using same Houdini build / VFH Houdini build versions.
              2. Make sure previous installation is wiped out, no old environment variables pointing to old location.
"Cannot find VRay_GUIMessageProcessing in library" means that VFH is build over newer version of the VRaySDKLibrary and thus the library it tries to load doesn't have this function.
This could happen if VRAY_APPSDK env. var. is pointing to some other/older/newer version.
              3. Make sure you are using same Python version. There is installer menu and py3 directory in the archive.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the same versions (which is why I didn't update to the latest Houdini, as it's not supported yet). I ran V-Ray's own uninstaller, so if anything is left over it is from that and I wouldn't know where to find it. For the .exe install it asks about a Python installation (and I left that option at the default), so that version should be current. And the directories in the vray_for_houdini.json file all point to the correct directories.
