  • volume data is to large bake to disk

trying to render a smoke plume . not that big . I've rendered much larger pyro sims with vray before but I get the "your volume data is to large bake to disk" what does that mean bake to disk its already of vdb on disk .

    Hi

This means you are rendering non cached vdb/houdini volume and it can't be written in the scene. This is current limitation for volumes not loaded from file. If you export the volume to .vdb and load it with file node it will work without this limitation and will start rendering faster.

      Hi Ghost3d,

Looks like your VDB file is not getting loaded as a packed primitive, the default load method of the "File" node is "Load all geometry" and this will load your data as unpacked geometry/volumes. VDB files need to be loaded as packed disk primitives in the "File" node.

      Best,
      David.
