  • (Resolved) Different behaviour between nightly Versions

    Hi,

    I updated my Vray 5.2 Version from "vray_adv_52024_houdini19.0.657_574f020_22092" (12. 07.2022) to "vray_adv_52024_houdini19.0.657_f075612_22116" (05. 08.2022).

With the new version some shaders behave totally different. Some shaders produce different diffuse values and some different glossiness values. I mostly use FileNodes, Triplanar's, LayerNodes, and ColorCorrections.

Is there something between this versions which was changed and could lead to this behaviour of shaders in the newer version?

Unfortunately I can not even check the changelogs because they're none for the Houdini Nightlies as far as I know...

    Somebody having the same problems?

    Cheers
    Tobias

Nightly builds are usually never guarantee you consistency, that's why there are "stable" nightlies.
Could you post any images/scenes showing the differences? Our automated test scenes do not show any differences...
There was a but though in the builds from 4th (or 5th) with the particular bitmap plugin parameter export, so
there is a chance you've just updated to the build with that issue.

      Hi bdancer ,

I try to find a build which doesn't change these things.

Unfortunately I can't send you the whole frame because of an NDA contract I signed . For this time I only got you some crops from it.

Don't look to much to the brightness, I changed it a bit because with the builds from 4th and 5th August it was at least twice as much bright as before. So i tried to match them a little.

In the first two pictures, the textures was to bright and also misplaced.
In the third, diffuse and reflection(Spec/Gloss) values were different. Also some color values were wrong which you can see in the picture with the button. Before yellow-ish and after orange-ish.

I also tried the Stable Nighlies Build from 3th of August and this Build is fine.
So I guess it's this Issue with the particular bitmap plugin you mentioned.

      Thanks for the support!

      Cheers

Yes, this looks like it, color_space parameter was exported wrong after some Core changes, it should be fine now, could you pls try some more recent build?
And sorry for that... but such things could happen with nightlies...

Yes I can try recent builds soon.
No, it was my fault to grab a "unstable" nightly in the middle of a project, I'm well awared of it accually but sometimes my brain doesn't work how expected

Cheers and thanks for the help!

            Hi bdancer ,

sorry for the late reply. I testet the scene with the newest nightly (V-Ray for Houdini number:22131 hash:26b373e from 19 Aug 2022 01:30
            V-Ray Core 5.20.24 [493f4a2c] from 15 Aug 2022).

Seams to work with almost no change to the older releases.

One material is different and I think it must have something to do with an interpretation of BlendMtl / Layer Texture / Distance Texture / Triplanar. I guess something was changed in the builds since then. I can live with that since this brightness shifts are no more.

            Happy weekend!
