  • (Fixed) [HOU-3503] VRayLight option for projecting texture with a spotlight

    Hi,
I am trying to emulate the lighting characteristics of the caustic reflections of a disco ball.
For this I want to project a texture through a spotlight. (The last time I have done this is 16 years ago ... maya software rendering)
But the vray spot light does no have a texture slot as the vray light rectangle has.
I can project a texture through an vray light rectangle and set the directionality to 1 to get it sharp. But it does not have the characteristic of a spot light.
I also tried to make the size of the are light as small as I could, and to reduce the directionality to 0.5 ish. But this results in a very noisy and still not sharp light pattern.

    Help is apreciated
    Cheers
    Christian

Sorry for late reply, you could use "Emission Color" in Textures group of SpotLight UI.

THX for the Reply Chakarov. I tried it, but the projected image repeats. I do not seem to have control over the "uv space" of the projecting spotlight.

The texture should be loaded in mat network as V-Ray ImageFile VOP, and than the path to this vop should be provided to spotlight "Emission Color". This way you will have all the texture controls available in V-Ray ImageFile.

Hi, im having an issue instancing spotlights that have emission color, like a gradient map plugged in. As soon as i instance this spotlight onto points using s@instance attribute, the lights dont show up anymore in render.

              Hey the_one_j ,

We've added support for the Emission color texture on instanced lights with the nightly builds from Nov 10, 2022.

              Best regards!
