  • VRay Distance doesn't consider objects loaded from vrscenes

    Hi!

It seems that VRay Distance doesn't consider objects loaded from VRayScenes.

When I load the object cached from a VRayScene, vray doesn't render the DistanceTex, when I feed in the live cooked unchached object, the DistanceTex renders well.

Can you confirm this? Is there a workarround?
I don't like to leave the heavy uncached object in the scene just for generating the DistanceTex. So it would be cool if DistanceTex could work with objects comming from a VRayScene, too.

    Thank you and greetings!

VRay Distance works only with mesh object. There is no way to make it work with the VRayScene.

As a supplement to what Andrei has written - maybe an option to work around this limitation would be to load your VRScene a second time in a separate Geometry node and use the "Unpack to Polygons" to extract the specific object you need to work with the distance texture. At this point it will be treated as a regular mesh.
In terms of times to first pixel, ideally you'd cache it out as an Alembic file, too.

      Best regards!
