  • Motion blur along curved paths with longer shutter times / high speeds

Hi all - trying to figure out how to get accurate motion blur across long shutter times, no matter what combination of settings we use it seems that V-Ray will only sample the velocity of the specific frame that is being rendered. Images attached showcasing this. If an objects is moving along a curved path we should be able to get accurate curved motion blur, not just a longer motion trail on that specific vector for that frame. Anyone got a solution?

Have you tried increasing "Num. samples" after adding V-Ray object properties to the object?

Gave this a shot but no dice unfortunately, are you also seeing this issue on your end with translating objects? Rotation works fine ie. spinning helicopter blades.

It'll be easier to help if you could attach (or send to the email in my signature) the .hip file.

HI frame48 , seems to work fine in Houdini 20.0.590 and latest nightly of V-Ray 6.2 . What is your OS, Houdini and V-Ray versions?

This could probably be improved, but as a workaround you could set "No Velocity Blur" and use geometry samples directly.

Does my scene produce the same error on your end? It seems to not be working at all, making fast motions look pretty poor. Could you provide a little more context on the no velocity blur approach you're mentioning? Thanks so much.

Just set "Geometry Velocity Blur" to "No Velocity Blur", this way only animated point samples will be used.
