  • (Fixed) [HOU-4206] CUDA and RTX GPU mode doesn't respect object matte properties

If I render a scene wich has an object with matte properties active in GPU mode (both CUDA and RTX) this properties are ignored. In CPU mode it renders ok.

I'm running Houdini 20.0.625 with latest Vray nightly.

Just adding more information on this: I’ve created a similar scene in Houdini 19.5.805 with V-Ray 6.20.03, and it works well in both CPU and GPU modes. I suspect that the issue may be related to the fact that in the latest V-Ray releases, the object properties (such as matte, visibility, etc.) are all disabled by default.

Could you send me the exact hip file? Cause it works for me on GPU same as on CPU...

Ok, the issue is with the "Enable All" button in the object properties, it's accidentally enabling hidden parameter "alpha_contribution_tex" which breaks the rendering.
I'll fix this, but for now the workaround is to press "Disable All" and then manually enable the parameters you need.

In last nightly this seems to not work again. I've tried the enable all and the manual enable but none of both seems to work on GPU mode.

                Hey gagui ,

Is it possible you have the wrong build running? You can verify from the V-Ray menu -> About V-Ray. Here's how the latest nightly build available here (https://nightlies.chaos.com/#/vray6houdini/nightly) looks for me:

                    Hey gagui ,

I see, it's the stable build then. That explains it - we're in the process of doing some internal optimizations that will result in decent Solaris improvements. The changes are not minor and thus require a lot of testing. We erred on the safe side and only picked a few fixes for the latest stable builds. The fix for this particular problem is in the nightly/nightly builds that I linked but not yet in the stable builds.

We plan the next stable build to contain all the fixes we've done since the latest official release.

                    Best regards!
